Drop Out

We have all heard Timothy Leary's famous 60's counterculture battle cry "turn on, tune in, drop out", but many of us have never quite understood just how powerful a statement of social change this is. In these turbulent times, where it seems like the "Powers that Be" are clamping down with increasing force, the aforementioned statement resonates more brilliantly than ever.  For the sake of brevity let’s just consider the last part - drop out.

The "Powers that be" will continue to rule our lives as long as we continue to participate in the same activities and manner as always. They depend on our predictability in order to control us. But it absolutely drives them ape-shit when we don't participate in their silly world of lies and deceits. Let me elaborate with an example - how many of us live in a municipality having real financial struggles?  In many of these municipalities driving citations, ticky-tack driving fines, and other motorist penalties are on the rise as a stop gap to their budget crisis.  Many of these municipalities have even implemented technologies such as traffic cams, and other Orwellian gadgets to facilitate revenue collections - and let's be honest; this is all about keeping the gravy train going not for public safety or any other bogus rationalization. So what do we do? Do we continue to drive and allow them to nickel and dime us?  Or do we do like Gandhi and drop out? I say drop out.  Here's how....

Try driving less or not driving at all, take public transportation, move to a town where everything is walking distance, or just move closer to work.  DO SOMETHING!!  But don't just let these stewards of the state rape you and your family for the sake of higher police pensions, overpaid bureaucrats, and a new ballpark for a billionaire ball team owner. We can get angry and protest or even riot, but I warn you that this will only make them clamp down even harder.  One thing they (and we all know who they is) can't stop is our lack of participation.  The best way to fight the system is to simply turn your back on it. - Lionel
